Set up a desk phone
Plug it in; it finds us.
Phones ordered from AIMERICA arrive set up: plug in network and power and they register by themselves.
For a phone you already own, open Settings → Desk phone. It shows your username, the server name (sip.a1merica.ai) and lets you set the phone password. The same page can give you a provisioning link: paste it into the phone once and it fetches its whole configuration, busy lamps included.
What to enter, on any brand
- Server / registrar: sip.a1merica.ai, port 5060, transport UDP.
- Username, register name and authentication name: the username from Settings → Desk phone.
- Password: the desk-phone password you set there (not your sign-in password).
- Registration (“expires”): 300 to 900 seconds. Longer works too — a phone re-registers on its own schedule after a server restart.
- The phone must reach the internet on UDP 5060 and 12000–12800. Most offices need no change.
- If the phone shows “registered” but calls have no sound, the office firewall is blocking the audio ports.
Yealink (T3x, T4x, T5x)
- Open the phone’s web page (its IP address is under Menu → Status), sign in, then Account → Register.
- Line Active: On. Label and Display Name: your name. Register Name and User Name: your username. Password: the desk-phone password.
- SIP Server 1: sip.a1merica.ai, Port 5060, Transport UDP, Server Expires 600. Confirm.
- Busy lamps: Dsskey → Line Key, Type BLF, Value = the colleague’s extension, Line 1. The key turns red while they are on a call.
Poly (VVX, Edge E)
- Open the phone’s web page (Settings → Status → Platform → Phone shows the IP), sign in as Admin, then Settings → Lines → Line 1.
- Display Name: your name. Address, Auth User ID: your username. Auth Password: the desk-phone password.
- SIP Server 1: Address sip.a1merica.ai, Port 5060, Transport UDPOnly, Expires 600. Save.
- Busy lamps: with the provisioning link the keys are set for you; by hand they are the line keys marked BLF (called “Enhanced Feature Keys” on older firmware).
Grandstream (GXP, GRP)
- Open the phone’s web page (Menu → Status → Network shows the IP), sign in, then Accounts → Account 1 → General Settings.
- Account Active: Yes. Account Name and Name: your name. SIP Server: sip.a1merica.ai. SIP User ID and Authenticate ID: your username. Authenticate Password: the desk-phone password.
- Account 1 → SIP Settings → Basic Settings: SIP Transport UDP, Register Expiration 10 (minutes). Save and Apply.
- Busy lamps: Settings → Programmable Keys → Multi-Purpose Keys, Mode BLF, Account 1, Value = the colleague’s extension.
Encrypted connection (SIP over TLS and SRTP)
Every current phone can encrypt both the signalling and the audio. Use it whenever the phone sits outside the office or on Wi-Fi. There is nothing to install: the server presents the a1merica.ai certificate (Let’s Encrypt), which phones trust out of the box.
- Server sip.a1merica.ai, port 5061, transport TLS. The phone must reach TCP 5061 as well as UDP 12000–12800.
- Audio encryption (SRTP): set it to optional / “enabled but not forced”. Compulsory works too — we answer with SRTP whenever the phone asks for it.
- Yealink: Account → Register → Transport TLS, Port 5061; Account → Advanced → RTP Encryption (SRTP): Optional.
- Poly: Settings → Lines → Line 1 → SIP Server 1 → Transport TLS, Port 5061. Most firmware has no SRTP switch on the web page: import a two-line configuration file (Utilities → Import & Export Configuration) with sec.srtp.enable="1" and sec.srtp.offer="1".
- Grandstream: Account 1 → SIP Settings → Basic Settings → SIP Transport TLS; Account 1 → Audio Settings → SRTP Mode: Enabled but not forced.
A padlock on the phone’s screen (Yealink and Grandstream show one on the line) means both ends are encrypted. Phones already on UDP keep working; nobody has to change.
